It's being widely reported that the Hunter/Rock match this Sunday at SummerSlam won't be the final encounter between the two. Paul Heyman's original plan was to have the two work a Street Fight at the PPV, but these plans were abandoned when the HBK/Orton program took off. Many insiders expect Hunter and The Rock to work as many as two more PPV dates after SummerSlam, so don't expect a satisfactory blow off this Sunday (Wrestling Observer Newsletter)
Many backstage are concerned at recent reports of painkiller taking by Ryan Simmons. The Scotsman has stated publicly he's been taking a cocktail of drugs to deal with a recurring back injury suffered while in Japan and sources indicate that WWE officials are concerned with the amounts he's rumored to be taking (PWInsider)
Paul Heyman is reportedly concerned with recent plans explained to him by Michael Shane as it pertains to promos. Heyman is apparently considering airing SmackDown on timed delay in the future, so as to be able to pull any unsuitable segments off air, as Shane is really pushing for SmackDown to break even further away from the PG-13 tag (Figure Four Online)
Again on Shane, the American Dream is said to have been riled by the taunts of Steve Austin backstage at last nights house show in Spokane. Austin is said to have been in "ribbing mood" as he laid into Shane along with The Big Show with jokes on Shane's physical size, tennis playing and vegetarian diet (something only Austin Aries and the late Killer Kowalski have ever claimed in wrestling). Shane is said to have given back much of what he received and the two left on good terms. This is however another example to the New Generation/WWE Classics angle being far more than a kayfabe storyline (PWtorch)
As has been speculated about, Koua Vang and Koji Miyamoto are almost certainly expected to move to SmackDown after SummerSlam, with Heyman lining up an angle involving Jimmy Fatal for the pair(PW Insider)
WWE have confirmed the signing of Sergio Griffon, a young Spanish star who WWE see at the "next Rey Mysterio" (Marca)
Post-SummerSlam is expected to be a very busy period for the WWE as far as releases are concerned. Among the names being mentioned on SmackDown are The Great Khali, Jimmy Wang Yang, Shannon Moore and The Miz. WWE are also looking at the possibility of bringing Finlay back after the Irishman was taken off TV for unknown reasons. Apparently the Irishman has expressed an interest in a singles run which may culminate in a push towards the United States Championship (WrestleZone.com)
Shawn Michaels and Randy Orton's rivalry has extended past their on screen angle and into video games where the two have been playing Pro-Evolution soccer on the X-Box 360 in competition with other Superstars, a competition now down to HBK, Doomsday and Orton (Wrestling Observer Newsletter)
Shelton Benjamin could be done with the company before he even debuts, with a number of road agents apparently unimpressed with his work at house shows. WWE ran one vignette for the South Carolinian on SmackDown and were looking to push him into a program with Rob Van Dam, but this may not be the case now (Bryan Alvarez on WOL)
WWE has been besieged by former Superstar Silent Assassin this past week. The former World Champion. Assassin is said to be in a bad way and was admitted to Britain's Priory rehab facility three weeks ago at WWE's expense. Sources indicate he turned up at Titan Towers in a state of drunkenness with a sandwich board proclaiming "The End Is Nigh", muttering something about black holes. Rumors he was talking about Rogue are unfounded (Wrestling Observer Newsletter)
The Big Show is apparently being targeted by a breadstick making firm after he declared an open interest in the product backstage at a house show recently). Show was widely ridiculed by superstars for the remarks, but apparently a major firm are lining Show up for some promotional work to begin in October ( Various sources)
