As
owner of VWWE i've become accustomed to writing obituaries for
wrestlers I've either grown up watching and loving or have had the
privilege of seeing on many a DVD or video clip. However, i never
suspected one of those men would be Chris Benoit and never in any
nightmare did i think any serving WWE Superstar, let alone a man like
the Chris Benoit that we all thought we knew and loved, would now be
disgracing the front pages of America and the Worlds news netwoks.
"Chris Benoit strangled his wife, smothered his son and then committed suicide"
Just
how do you react to this? a man who was loved and respected by us all
has committed an unimaginable, horrific and heinus act, an act that
nobody could have ever foresaw.
The main question is of course
why? why did Chris do this? were steroids involved? how did it happen?
from those questions rise ones for WWE, are they responsible? what are
the implications? where does the business go from here?
These
are questions i have asked myself and others and there seems little
answer at this point as the dust still settles. Although many facts I'm
sure have still to come to light, it seems that none of us, even Chris'
own friends in WWE, really knew the man, nor what he kept hidden in his
mind.
Professional Wrestling has always presented characters as
heroes, larger than life, perfect athletes. We watch them sometimes up
to 100 times a year, we spend money to do so on PPV, we read about
their lives daily on the Internet and in the dirtsheets, read their
books, buy their merchandise and play as them in games, follow their
careers and know so much about them, all making us feel as though we
may know them even slightly as a person, yet do we? i no longer believe
we do.
I should like to thank Chris Benoit for 22 years of
unforgettable memories, i will condemn him to the day i die for the one
memory he forever left us with, a memory so terrible that it will
forever be attached to his name, it will forever echo through our minds
when we hear his name called by the ring announcer on our DVDS, the
memory of that heinous act will forever darken what had been a golden
career.
Maybe i could accept this easier if it had been somebody
else, if it had been the Great Khali or Mark Henry for example, men
that we don't idolize and hold up as perfect examples of what a
wrestler should be. Chris Benoit was a genius, if you consider
professional wrestling an art form than Benoit was your Van Gogh or
your Mozart, he could do things in that ring that so very few ever
could or ever will again and yet behind his art, there clearly lurked
an unwell man.
There can be no doubt that Chris brought great
honor to himself and the sport throughout his career, it breaks my
heart to know that he has brought the biggest disgrace imaginable upon
himself and the business he adored so much in death.
As i write
this it's emerged that Daniel Benoit had been suffering from Fragile X
syndrome. I can never understand why Chris did this, nor sympathize,
but maybe we now have an answer as to the question of why he may have
done this terrible deed.
After so many victories in his long
career, it looks like Chris lost his greatest battle of all - the one
against himself. Now he begins a new fight - one for forgiveness.
-----
I hurt myself today
to see if I still feel
I focus on the pain
the only thing that's real
the needle tears a hole
the old familiar sting
try to kill it all away
but I remember everything
what have I become?
my sweetest friend
everyone I know
goes away in the end
and you could have it all
my empire of dirt
I will let you down
I will make you hurt

"Sensational" Sherri Martel
1958 - 2007
It is with great sadness VWWE learnt of the passing of former WWF Womens Champion and manager Sensational Sherri Martel.
Sherri Russell began her wrestling career in 1980, training under the Fabulous Moolah and Donna Christentello, she climbed the ladder of the Womens ranks and defeated Candi Devine for the AWA Womens Title in 1985. While holding the title belt, she also managed several wrestlers, including tag team champions Playboy Buddy Rose and Doug Sommers.
In 1987 Martel moved to the then WWF where she defeated the Fabulous Moolah for the WWF Womens Championship.
Martel turned her focus towards managing full time, notabaly including the Macho Man Randy Savage during the famous angle surrounding Hulk Hogan and Miss Elizabeth. In the early 1990s she would oversee the career of the young Shawn Michaels and later that of Ric Flair and the Harlem Heat in WCW
Sherri was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame just one year ago in 2006.
VWWEs thoughts and prayers go out to Sherris family and friends at this time.

Following the shocking events last night on Raw, VWWE presents its shortlist of suspects into the murder of Vince McMahon
Outside chances: Jim Ross, Paul Heyman, TNA Wrestling, The Undertaker, Kane, Al Qaeda, the CIA, Wade Keller,
15: VWWE. Well we're not denying it, and Sam was pretty offended by the Mae and Moolah segment last night. VWWE has never been one to shy away from publicity. Don't count us out lol
14: It was natural causes. That's whats the Jamaican police say anyway :)
13: Rikishi. He has previous. Could a new Triple H/Rikishi alliance be in the works like when they ran down Austin? we certainly hope not
12: Ted Turner. Well... its a possibility lol
11: Muhammed Hassan. Well it IS a car bombing afterall, has to be a suspect.
10: God. Vince certainly pissed off the big guy last year, maybe a religious nut? maybe God himself struck down Vince with his mighty car bomb? ......probably not.
9: Stone Cold Steve Austin. Has he finally take their long running feud too far? it is unlikely, Austin maybe a beer swilling redneck, but car bomber? probably not. Though he did try and kill Triple H in 2000 after dropping him in a car.
8: Eric Bischoff. There was no bigger rival during the 90s, things seemed to improve in 2002 but Vince then took every possile opertunity to embarass his employee. Did Eric get his revenge? a final chapter in the Monday Night Wars? a possibility and a man with a motive.
7: Hulk Hogan. After costing him millions of dollars by throwing him out of WrestleMania 22, the business in Memphis, Hogan has motive. Has all this been a work all along? did Hogan kill Vince McMahon and finally end their feud?
6: Bret The Hitman Hart. Who hates Vince more? nobody. On the same night Bret Hart makes his first appearance on WWE TV in ten years, Vince McMahon is killed. How very convieniant.
5: Randy Orton. Has his recent obsession about being the Legendkiller again gone too far? has he killed the biggest legend of them all? have WWE just complete ripped off our Hogan/Orton angle? i wouldn bet against it.
4: Bobby Lashley. Vince had been making his life a living hell and as a former army seargent, he'll know all about bombs. Could there be a dark side to he personality? his involvement would instantly make him a massive star, which is exactly what Vince wanted. Despite Mr mcMahon being a massive heel, his murder will make the culprit the biggest heel in decades.
3: Triple H. Just bacause HE WOULD. Triple H isnt above such a move to gain himself power as we saw with what he did to Austin, but what would he have to gain?
2: Shane McMahon. An internal power struggle had been hinted for weeks and Vinces insanity was going to drag down WWE. Did the heir apparent get tired of waiting and seize power? its very likely. The presence of Brisco and Patterson at the scene adds fuel to the concept of this being an inside job.
1: Vince McMahon. Who else? with no body being found in the wreckage, the possibility of a faked death is very high. But why? and who assisted in this subtefuge? Vinces two more trusted stooges Patterson and Brisco were there all along, who better to help hatch this plot? Just like "Bret Screwed Bret" i suspect "Vince killed Vince" all along.

VINCENT KENNEDY MCMAHON
1945 - 2007
As this mornings news was going to press, VWWE was saddened to learn of the apparent death of WWE Chairman Vincent Kennedy McMahon in an explosion at the Wachovia Arena in Wilkes-Barre. VWWE extends it condolances to Vinces wife Linda and his two children Stephanie and Shane.
A full tribute to the founder of Sports-Entertainment will be posted tomorrow while we shall of course observe a period of mourning.
RIP Mr McMahon

This site will feature columns, backstage news in the old style, retro articles and much more. Make sure you bookmark it.
I will update the SmackDown situation on Sunday evening.
May 25, 2007
Firstly today im sad to announce the retirement of one of VWWEs longest serving members - Graeme.
Controlling the immortal; Tommy Dreamer and the rising Ryan Simmons, Graeme has distinguished himself amongst the elite players of the game and won a well deserving Hall of Fame place a few years ago.
Hopefully we'll still see him in chat and maybe even an occasional special appearance in VWWE as well. You'll be missed bud.
------
Graemes departure comes also at a time that im looking to bring some fresh blood into VWWE, so if theres anybody out there thinking of joining or any existing members know of anybody - get signing up. I'll be doing a lot of advertising next week and im hopeful a few newbies can be brougt in.
Raw is of course up for all those who haven't seen, the rest of the sitehas been generally updated.
SmackDown card up as soon as i hear from Nik who's having a few personal problems at the moment.
They'll be two massive announcements this Sunday, both good and both concerning two very welcome returns. One of which i personally consider to be the most unlikely return in the history of VWWE. Even more unlikely than the last time FWC make a comeback lol.
May 10, 2007

Thanks go out to Morten and Nathan for their input already and hopefully we can get the PPV up soon.
April 28, 2007
First off i bring some excellent and somewhat unexpected news
VWWE has won an award :D
To be precise, VWWE.com has won an award from the American Design Awards from creativity, effectivness and praticality, scoring 76/100.
"The American Design Awards was founded in the year 2000 by design professional and educator Brandon McKay, as well as graphic designers Kevin and Art Javid of San Diego, California. Their mission was to not only provide the graphic and web design community (domestic and international) with a legitimate and accessible design awards program, but more importantly educating graphic artists worldwide on the importance of upholding and practicing ethical design guidelines.
The American Design Awards is well on its way to becoming one of the most respected independent awards organizations globally, and it can be attributed to not only their policies, procedures, and vision, but more importantly having the best interest of their fellow graphic designers, and the industry in mind."
To win any award is a great honor for VWWE, one as prestigious as this in our 5th anniversary year is something else. Congratulations to all VWWE, we can now officially refer to ourselves as "the award winning" Virtual WWE lol
Clicking below will take you to the awards page
Sorry for the lack of updates but ive been a little busy over the past week or so, all thats now sorted. NWO will be up asap, i also have the completed Barely Legal which i'll release later. They'll be more site updates later as wll as well as some good WCW news i hope
April 16, 2007
SmackDown is up, a fantastic show once again, well worth the wait im sure you'll agree.
The No Way Out card is also up, send those guesses ASAP virtual-wwe@hotmail.com and while you're at it - Barely Legal guesses please.
Expect massive updates on WCW this week including site news, title news, PPV dates and the official announcement of the debut roster.
The VWWEs rosters and tributes section will also be updated in the coming days.
April 12, 2007
ECW on Sci-Fi is up, the card for Barely legal should be also by the time you read.
No new news on WCW but i hope to bring some with the next update.
April 5, 2007
As revealed on the front page, WCW is to make its return. Full details are now available for those who aren't in the know:
The Fed is completely owned, managed, booked and produced by VWWE.
It will have its own site seperate from VWWE.com known... as VWCW.com (creative genius)
This site will be created using original graphics and logos from the late 1990s WCW.com site for authenticity
There will be one show a week to begin with, expanding to two after the first PPV. I shall be writing the show personally along with Stu.The shows will be awesome, do not fear
The gimmick (eef you willllll) of the Fed will be that every episode of Monday Nitro will be broadcast on the same night as VWWEs Raw, giving us a Monday War scenario and allowing for defections and the like.
The Fed exists in the same universe as VWWE, so no characters in two Feds will be allowed.
The shows will be based around WCWs golden period of 1996-1998 and not the crap it descended into by the end.
Id love people to bring back old characters over move them from one Fed to another. NO characters however will be moved by the creative team without you wanting it. One thing id rather not do is havereal characters who were never in WCW or would never have likely been joining up - EG The Rock, Kane, RVD, John Cena. These people are WWE and would spoil the feel of the show, simply making it another VWWE Brand and not something unique.
The Fed will begin alongside Raw the first week after VWWEs WrestleMania 23
Anybody interested is encouraged to leave details in the chat or send me a mail.
----------
The SmackDown card is:
Carlito, Rey Mysterio and Juan Sanchez vs Shawn Justice, Dave Snyder and Romeo Vanity
Primal w/Ryan Simmons vs Showtime w/James Steele
Ric Flair vs Michael Shane for the United States Championship
Cryme Tyme vs Hunter and Nightmare for the World Tag Team Championships
Randy Orton and Ric Flair vs Hulk Hogan and Triple H in the big tag match, one night return of the 2002 Power Trip for the old school members and finally.....
Forxx in a mystery match
----------
Hope everybody likes the new boxes on the front page :D, still some big issues with the site, we're still working on it at the moment but as the headline says, it'll be better than ever.
April 2, 2007
For those who missed it, Raw went up last night and is now in the relevent section. Stay tuned tomorrow for the SmackDown card and that big announcement
March 27, 2007
Apologies for the lack of updates this past week, i've just been attending to some matters offline.
Thanks to Shawn for the pics, ill add those ASAP.
Expect Raw prior to WWEs WrestleMania PPV
Scott was also a little disapointed with the ECW guesses, please keep checking the ECW card and guess ASAP, thanks peeps
March 21, 2007
ECW Card now up, sorry for the delay.
Need those Raw guesses and promos ASAP please as i really wanna get this show out for Monday.
There was also an error on the Raw card, it will be Randy Orton teaming with the Undertaker and Doomsday and not Forxx.
March 19, 2007
Ernie Ladd 1938 - 2007
Arnold Skaaland 1925 - 2007
VWWE was saddened to learn of the passing of WWE Hall of Famers "The Big Cat" Ernie Ladd and "The Golden Boy" Arnold Skaaland since our last update.
Ernie Ladd was a former standout Football player with the San Diego Chargers, Houston Oilers (now Tennessee Titans) and Kansas City Chiefs, winning a place in the old AFL Allstar team five years in a row. He began wrestling in 1961, becoming a headline act very quickly, by the 1970s he was considered one of the best heels in the business and as an African American, broke new ground by not being portrayed as a stereotype. Ladd made his WWE debut in 1968, being a mainstay for the next twelve years, his feud with the immortal Andre The Giant being one of the biggest of the decade. After leaving the WWE Ladd had a successful run in the Mid-South territory before finally retiring in 1986.
The Golden Boy Arnold Skaaland was one of the last survivors of the old school of professional wrestling, long before the expansion of Vince McMahon and even the territories heyday of the 1970s. He debuted soon after the Second World War in 1946 and soon made a name for himself in the NWA, challenging the likes of Buddy Rogers and Freddie Blassie. By the 1960s, Skaaland was one of the earliest competitors in the brand new WWWF, what today has become the WWE, becoming World Tag Team Champion with Tony Parisi and even a stockholder in Capitol Wrestling, the WWWFs parent company, responsible for producing shows and acting as Andre The Giants agent. He would have success in the managers field in the ring also, managing both Bruno Sammartino and Bob Backlund to the WWE Championship, famously throwing in the towel and costing Backlund his title to the Iron Sheik in 1983 prior to the onset of Hulkamania.
Ernie Ladd passed away on March 10th after batting cancer since 2004, Arnold Skaaland passed away just three days later on the 13th. VWWEs thoughts go out their family and friends and we thank them both for their long and groundbreaking careers.
----------
Im pleased to report the Royal Rumble is now up, the usual updates have been done and both the Raw card and the ECW cards are now up, all guesses ASAP please
March 7, 2007
Allen "Bad News Brown" Coage
1943 - 2007
Allen J. Coage was one of the rare few Superstars to have also been an Olympian and even rarer, a medalist, winning the Bronze in Mens Judo in Montreal for the 1976 games. Trained by the legendary Antonio Anoki, Coage found his wrestling home in the infamous Stampede wrestling where he would fight men such as Bret Hart, the Dynamite Kid and Owen Hart on a regular basis. His most fondly remembered run however came in the WWE in the late 80s, famously eliminating Bret Hart at WrestleMania IV in the Battle Royal at that event.
Bad News Brown passed away yesterday at the age of 63, our thoughts and prayers are with his family at this time.
RIP Bad News Brown
The Rumble card is now up, guesses and promos ASAP please.

February 28, 2007
Its always sad when these news pieces are made, but i feel it has to be done. These following words are taken from last nights chat conversation and involve Doug Cornett, AKA the Boogeyman and "Marcus".
For the record, Doug has been verified as being genuine and not a clone
marcus: whos doug
doug cornett: im doug,marcus!
doug cornett: dude,u dont wanna join vwwe! Its a bunch of asshole rejects that cant even get a life!
marcus: i dont know you. Why u say that
doug cornett: cause they think they can run ur life, insult u,and they will talk about u behind ur back! They think the are really wwe!
marcus: oh,well that sux
marcus: hmmm i dnt knw if i wanna be part of that. I mean im a optimistic guy and dont wanna be insulting ppl
What followed after this i can only describe as "classic locker", you can scroll back in chat and see for yourself, whom Marcus is becomming obvious.
However, VWWE serves notice following this that Doug Cornett is unwelcome in ANY guise in VWWE and quite frankly, whereever E-Feds are found. He is blacklisted and in my opinion, now ranks alongside Nova and Luke in ranks of the idiots insurgency.
VWWE hopes this incident will promopt others to take similiar action and remove him from any position he may hold and that his removal will be encouraged by all those with a love for this game.
Both Mick and Sam are of the same opinion in this matter and i think the whole creative/management team is in fact spoken for.
Lets kick idiots out of E-Feds :)
February 26, 2007
Raw is now up in the usual section

Michael "Mike Awesome" Alfonso
1965 - 2007
VWWE was saddened to learn of the passing of former ECW Champion Mike Awesome yesterday at the age of 42. A major star in both Japan and ECW, Awesome was the two time ECW Champion before moving to WCW where he was marked for great things that sadly never materialized. Awesome however persevered and stole the show so well at the first One Night Stand with long time rival Masato Tanaka there was serious talk of a WWE deal at the time. Awesome however will surely alway be remembered as possibly the finest of all the original ECW stars and almost certainly the companys greatest Champion.
Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends at this tragic time.
SmackDown is now up, the Raw card is up as is the ECW card
New Youtube and Where Are They Now sectiones added
Can Dave Snyder mail me his stats again please
Theres also been another incident in the vain of the "Life imitates Art" piece in the 5th anniversary section. I'll give you the quote from PWtorchs Raw Results:
"We start off with a shot of a Barber pole and chair in the ring. Mr. McMahon’s music hits as we are LIVE from Bakersfield, California at Rabobank Arena. Brutus Beefcake should’ve been brought out to host this segment, unless WWE couldn’t find enough coke to pay him with."
This is blatent plagurism. Not only have WWE done the barbers set as we did on Raw last week, but some guy at the Torch even stole Michael Shanes cocaine joke against Beefcake lol (i was gunna say he stole his cocaine line or even cocaine crack but that may have meant something else...)
Get those guesses in peeps :)
February 18, 2006
ECW on Sci-Fi is now up, thanks to Scott for another excellent show, the new card will be up after SmackDown which will go up tonight.
We officially welcome Michael Steven Northmore to VWWEs ECW brand also, welcome aboard dude.
I've just a few requests also,
Can all things that will be going into shows such as promos etc be sent either via the PM system or via an E-Mail attachment as pasting from hotmail has adverse effects as you'll have probably notice in pasted shows recently.
Also, we're not currently taking notice of messages at Myspace due to the amount of spam we've been getting, please send everything here, by hotmail or if possible in the chat.
Thanks peeps, don't forget to send those roster details if you have any (we're still working on that section btw)
February 15, 2007
It's our 5th birthday, yay! lol, to celebrate this milestone we've added a section to the side bar (Inside WWE section, right below the news link) with a few features and a video.
The video seems to be eratic in loading, if it doesn't work a download link has been provided (Not advised for dial up users as its quite big, but worth it i think as its a cool vid)
In other news, expect SmackDown Friday, ECW Sunday and Raw Monday, the Raw card will go up right after SmackDown so get those guesses ASAP.
We're also after new stars for the ECW Brand, we're looking to expand by aything up to ten new guys.
VWWE will also announce the 2007 Hall of Fame inductees inn the same manner as WWE, one a week till WrestleMania. The first inductee will be announced on the Raw following the Royal Rumble.
February 13, 2007
ECW Card now up, get those guesses to Scott or myself as soon as you can.
SmackDown is going out without a card this week but all your guesses still need to go to Nik or myself still as soon as possible please
We welcome Dave Snyder to VWWE
The site is as good as done but i know that many people have sent me stuff for the roster that i havent added. Could everybody please check their bios and if theres anything i havent added, could you please send it me again? sorry for the trouble
February 7, 2007
Raw is now up, the ECW and SmackDown cards will be added later today. The new look of the site is now finished and the content also updated today, hope you all like it.
Thanks also for the great Raw feedback.
Stu's excellent War of the Worlds PPV is up and takes place before this weeks Raw, the results can be found here:

February 2, 2007
Apologies for the lack of updates over the past few days but i've just been a little under the weather :(
Updates have now begun however, as you can see the site has been destroyed lol.
We're currently in the process of updating the look so bare with us if it looks a mess for a while and expect Raw on Monday
January, 24 2007
The Survivor Series is now up in the revevent section (find the link in the side bar or click on the poster), the new Raw card is now up.
Thanks to everybody who promoed for the show, top quality stuff and i hope the show lives up to them.
The rest of the site is update in all the usual places. Expect a full look at the career of Bam Bam Bigelow to be posted later today in the tributes section also.
January 20, 2007
Scott "Bam Bam" Bigelow , 1961 - 2007
VWWE was saddened to learn of the passing of Bam Bam Bigelow yesterday at the age of 45.
Bam Bam will forever be remembered as the Beast From The East, a name stemming from his New Jersey origins.
Bam Bams career covered two decades and several countries, having successful careers in the then WWF, WCW, ECW and also in Japan where he teamed with fellow great "big man" Vader.
Beginning his career as a face in the 1980s, he made an instant splash while teaming with Hulk Hogan. Despite gaining considerable popularity, he left the company for New Japan, winning the IWGP Tag Titles with Vader. In late 1992 he returned to America for what is possibly his most well known run, turning heel and joining the Million Dollar Corporation in 1994.
It was during this period he achieved possibly the greatest moment of his career when he Main Evented WrestleMania IX against NFL Superstar Lawrence Taylor. Shortly afterward Bam Bam turned face once more and began to team with Kevin Nash before leaving the company once again.
A brief run in ECW would follow before more work in Japan but his name would not become familiar to American audiences again till 1997 when he fully signed with ECW, having one of the companies greatest ever feuds with Taz, slamming him through the ramp in one memorable bout in his home of Asbury Park.
Bigelow was signed to WCW in 1998 but like so many, was underutilized, forming a part of the companies fledgling Hardcore division. He was still under contract when the company folded in 2001, he retired the following year.
Bam Bams life since has been marred with personal demons and tragedy. Seemingly at a loss following his retirement from the ring he opened his own Hamburger Joint that folded a few years later, the accident involving his girlfriend and himself well publicized.
There can be no doubt however that in his prime, Bam Bam was one of the most famous wrestlers in the business and a ready challenger to Vader for the title of the best man of his size. A unique look and attire coupled with the ability that shows all of todays wrestlers just how a monster should be played.
RIP Bam Bam
January 15, 2007
Site updated in a few places. Can Paul send me his stats again as i've mislaid them, thanks dude.
January 12, 2007
Just need a few more guesses off people, thanks to everybody for their quick guesses and the great quality of promos thus far, looks like its gunna be a hell of a show.

On the same day that David Beckham sealed his historic move to the LA Galaxy for what will end up being over Two Hundred and Fifty Million Dollars with all things taken into account, it seems one of our own was inspired to make some "transfer demands" of their own..... stand up Doug... For now however...
VWWE: A year in Review
What a year. I honestly think this has been my favorite year of doing VWWE since 2002, on every front. VWWE has risen to new levels both creatively and in a company sense with our expansion onto the web and Myspace and everywhere else. Lets take a look back at the year, the good times and the not so good:
January was a crazy month as we started a mini-war with IVW, or rather IVW did, i don't really remember how it all started to be honest but really one thing totally sticks out - the IVW video. Im not gunna make any bones about it just to be unoffensive, i loved making this and still find it funny. Its not something i do often and is a very different creative direction but great fun and from the feedback, i think most ppl liked it as well... well... those in VWWE anyway lol.
However the fun was mixed with a huge sadness when Fi briefly left VWWE for what id rate as the low point of the year. With Phil bringing his insults, Fi leaving and arguments abound, the month ended on a sour note :(
February was quiet, a rather low key fourth birthday for the Fed but happily Fi returned and as ever, we turned it all into an angle lol, which was something i liked writing. Angles based in reality such as the rivalrys between HBK and SA, Hogan and Austin or Triple H and Nathan James always add something to shows, something real is at stake and you can throw in those little shoot comments. I grew up on a dose of Bret/HBK, blame Vince for it lol.
March was a BIG month for us, something i didnt mention to the roster but spoke with Sam about. We'd pulled off a few Raws that had got good feedback but it was now time to deliver a PPV, and not any PPV, it was to be WrestleMania, the first PPV of the year. VWWE had taken a major break in 2005 and i was never happy with the output of earlier that year (The Rhyno half-owner angle) as it was to be quite honest... shit. But since the return in late 2005, the shows and angles had been of a generally great quality (even if i do say so myself) and i was enjoying writing them, but really, WrestleMania i saw as make or break. We'd be stop/start since early 2004 and we didnt want that again. Luckily, WrestleMania was generally considered to be awesome and we havent looked back, it was our WrestleMania 14 in a way, a time to forget the past of FWC, EHW, the old angles, the old traditions and move onto new angles, new characters, new headliners. I feel it was a success.
The show itself was a good card, but without that major match, a Austin/Hogan for example. It was like WWEs own recent WrestleManias in that whereas there was no huge drawing match-up, the matches themselves were of great quality. Michael Shane/James Steele needed no build up, we'd fought in IVW and with the IVW war, the background was all there. Fi was great and quite frankly, i was great lol. My favorite feud for the Michael Shane character without question. Boogeyman vs Carlito.... pass, next. Nathan James vs Forxx in a street fight was in my own opinion, my best ever street fight match, a match up i love writing. Nathan and Forxx MADE their characters in this match. Although around a long time, they both needed something to get them through that glass ceiling and make them main eventers - this was it. Best match on the show. The Main Event was an odd one and really, the last stand of the old guard, the torch passing match without it being passed lol. Tone deserved this one last run and i hope this final Main Event did Stone Cold justice because he WAS Virtual WWE for a very long time. And the ending? yeah we stole it from WrestleMania X7, but we put a bit of a slant on it and it was one hell of a fucking ending.... well... at least till WM22 anyway.
It was shortly after this that Mike aka Marcel Terra aka The Rock aka Marco aka the man with too many nicknames returned. Ive always liked Mike, even during the Monday Night Wars, he's a true passion for wrestling and he's a great writer as well as being a cool guy into the bargain, what more can you ask? well he's a horrendous stoner, so of course, he slotted right back in lol. For a few weeks though, i had nothing for The Rock. This is always a problem with guys who return, I've had the same trouble with Nathan James and Showtime, trying to slot ppl into places. We always plan a whole month ahead, making contingency plans in case you ppl win matches we dont really want you to win or vanish into thin air, while we have rough ideas for about three months ahead. Right now ive a few ideas of things for WrestleMania for example, so after ppl return it can take a month or so before you're properly settled back in. This was the case with The Rock, i put him in a feud with Vince and the Corporation, playing off The Rocks movie star life and the fact the real Rockys done with wrestling. It didnt come off, nor did the subsequent feud with Coops based on their interaction in chat. Both feuds were a massive disappointment to me and unfortunately I've not been able to do anything to rebuild the character since as Mike has disappeared. A low creative point.
One of two men was going to get a push through the spring, Triple H or Batista. Both men would be pushed eventually anyway, no doubt. Batista had had his breakout few months after facing Ric Flair at Taboo Tuesday and the Triple H character was undergoing major reworking after being effectively killed during Wills latter days in 2003. The man who got the push was Batista and in retrospect, that was right. Triple H is now about to face the Undertaker at Survivor Series and win lose or draw, with the whole DX angle (which is closely under wraps), he'll be stepping up to the plate in early 2007, lots of interesting things we can do with him. Daz was always one of the most likable guys in Feds (at least since we prized him away from FWC anyway lol) and thoroughly deserved his Title win at SNME. I really didnt expect him to win first time and was planning a rematch for the Royal Rumble but win he did, and it made a great finale to the first SNME, creating a great feud in Nightmare/Batista, Showtime added to the mix when it started to go a bit stale. The feud continued through the Royal Rumble 2006 to WrestleMania 22 where Nightmare defeated Tista in the rubber match, Daz's last appearance for VWWE and theres no doubt that he's been missed, one of our true greats.
April saw the Royal Rumble, built around Batista and Nightmare but it eventually ended up being about Showtime as Paul cashed in the Money in the Bank he's won at WM21 in March and defeated Nightmare after he'd defeated Batista, the first time the Title had changed hands twice on the same show and giving Nightmare the unhappy record of shortest ever Title Reign. The show was also notable for a great little match between Triple H and HBK, a pleasure writing that one and for the Royal Rumble, won jointly by those two men Batista and Nightmare. The Rumble match itself was good i thought, but not as memorable as the 2005 match won by Stone Cold.
Shawn Michaels match with Triple H was in fact intended to be one of HBKs last, a few indications given before and throughout. I was really trying to get away from the HBK/Hogan/Austin era that had dominated Raw in 2002/2003 and had very little for Shawn until we came up with the Undertaker feud which was always intended to be HBKs last, Hell in a Cell IS Shawns retirement match as it stands right now. Though HBK will return in the new year, the 2007 Royal Rumble being from San Antonio being a perfect opportunity to do something, but Taker/HBK (another awesome feud) was always the swansong of the Heartbreak Kid.
Ever get the impression im a mark for Ric Flair and the Four Horsemen? lol, if you didnt you certainly will have done in the summer of this year. The new Horsemen formed in April at SNME but didnt really get active till defeating Team Scotland at the Royal Rumble. Sam wasn't pleased with the Horsemen line up, Johnny Nitro and later Randy Orton drawing particular scorn lol, but i think it works. MNM in real life have that Flair "money" attitude, the expensive fur coats, the shades and they can certainly wrestle, something that has only really become apparent in the past six months while Randy Orton goes with both them and Flair perfectly. I was a big fan of Evolution and apart from his recent Rated RKO antics, that was the only time Orton was any good character wise in real life.
VWWE had momentum, there had been a few late shows in the summer, thanks largely to the fact... it was summer, but all in all, VWWE was as good as it had been since 2003 and possibly show wise, as good as it had ever been. Time to do something big, time for a WrestleMania X7 style event - that even was WrestleMania 22.
Where as the basic rule for WM21 was "dont fuck it up", the rule for WM22 was "beat everything else". I wanted WM22 to be the final word in E-Fed shows, the greatest epic of all time. Was it? yes.... and no. It was certainly the biggest, extras, three more mini-shows and the longest PPV in VWWE (and probably the whole of E-Fed) history. However, the show itself was very much akin to WWEs own WrestleMania 22 in feel. I'd watching the show at least twice before writing WM22 and i think it shows a lot in parts which possibly gives the PPV a less epic feel as that was how WM22 itself felt. But personally? its my favorite VWWE PPV ive done, topping WrestleMania XIX and i thank everybody again who gave feedback on this one.
We'd had a lot of new guys joined since the last PPV (and fleeting visits from the original Matt Hardy, RVD and Nitro), Adan finally got around to joining after being around for ages, Kill Crazy made his debut as did CM Punk and Primal, talents which have since gone on to make strong names for themselves and will all be breakout acts of 2007. Primals feud with Rossi and Mysterio was a great undercard feud in the latter half of the year but Rossis absences meant that Primal won 95% of the matches, Rey finally getting a victory some months later.
The advantage this show had was the midcard matches were built up better than WM21, Simmons vs Steele for example. Graeme and Fi must be sick of facing each other now lol and i think the match at Survivor Series will be a blow off between these two but i love this feud, in particular the background Graeme threw into it from their history back in Scotland and then the double turn with Steele going heel. I think Steele works best as a heel and we've a very interesting road to go down early next year with him and Nick Fury.... (that sounded gay..... bring me to....)
Yeah you guessed it - Adult Viewing. The most entertaining act of the year? without question. They were straight once Y'Know lol, then one night in the locker, Ric Flair in character calls them gay, a fantastic in character battle emerged and next? you've got Adult Viewing. All credit to Mike, not many people would have the balls to play these guys and he pulls it off great fantastically (double entendre implied) and its great for VWWE creatively. Two highly original characters that no other Fed within our own community has attempted before, in a way they're almost the gay Cryme Tyme, "mocking stereotypes".
Theres always controversy where VWWE is concerned and im sure one individual wont mind me saying that they've frequently been heavily involved in it one way or another. Bringing back Jon AKA Silent Assassin into the VWWE fold was greeted with a mixed reception as i expected, however i feel his year was his best since 2002/2003 and has taken part in a great and memorable feud with Michael Shane which has helped get the younger star over and re-establish and maybe even re-energize the SA character. Jon has valuable experience and a great history in E-Feds which are fantastic for some of the newer characters and guys who debuted way after SA first did and dont know of his history or that of VWWE during the Monday War period. SAs rebirth in 2006 and incoming one off reunion with his old friends Rey Mysterio and Juan Sanchez set him in good stead for 2007 and possibly a return to the days of him carrying gold.
With both Tone and Daz gone, the great characters of Batista and Austin off Raw, we were majorly lacking in the Main Event department, the disappearance of Showtime a few weeks later making it even worse, as we built toward SummerSlam i decided to push a few people and give others the opportunity to make a name for themselves in the King of the Ring tournament. These things are always a concern (Titan nearly winning the 2002 tournament for instance), there is always the possibility that somebody "unfavorable" could win. However this year things went rather well, Boogeyman happily eliminating himself by being fired. There were a few upsets along the way however, a few people pulling off unexpected victories, but the final four were all people i see as breakout acts either last year or in 2007.
Two of these had another memorable feud in my eyes, those being Hunter and Randy Orton. This feud was excellently played by both guys with some brilliant promos, Stu's involving Bob Orton one of particular note as it perfectly set the tone of the feud and added a little something extra to their grudge match the following week on PPV. The feud really ran throughout the year but was strongest between WrestleMania 22 and SummerSlam and i think it'll be a feud which defines both guys in the future.
Randy of course won the WWE Championship at the event in possibly the biggest upset of all time, defeating the iconic Nightmare. The only potential contender for bigger upset is Titan defeating Doomsday, also involving the KOTR tournament, back in 2002. On that occasion a midget ran in and cost Nik the victory, psychologically causing his deep hatred of midgets ever since.
Talking of pushes, Nathan James was to end the year as our top face, however this quickly had to be altered when Matt took a leave of absence, changing plans completely. I can see Matt coming back a lot stronger in the next few months and with WrestleMania on the horizon he could be in for a big return. The plans i think changed for the better, we've a great match planned for the Survivor Series as well as a very strong card to kick off the year. The blow off between Ryan Simmons and James Steele will be a pleasure to write as will the tag match. Hopefully we can kick off this fifth anniversary year in style.
So, 2006 then... a year of massive changes within both VWWE and E-Feds. We saw the birth and passing of the excellent SFW, the debut of CBW, the possible death of IVW and the return and quick demise of FWC. VWWE brought back both SmackDown and ECW, got first one stunning site and then took a crap on it with an even better one. On the personnel front we saw the return of Nik and the brief visits of Rob, Matt Hardy and Nitro. There were welcome debuts for Randy Orton, Primal, Kill Crazy, Rey Mysterio, Shawn Justice, Adult Viewing and Hunter as well as an unwelcome one for the Boogeyman. Mick continued to mature like a fine wine and Sam? continued to be fantastic.
Heres to 2007 :)
